WaxUp Africa was born in Switzerland from the meeting of two passionate entrepreneurs.
Their shared love for Wax, the emblematic textile of Africa, gave them the desire to join forces in order to highlight it and give it its place among current trends in an ethical spirit.
In 2013, the founders decided to focus their energies on Wax and printed fabric. This colourful, graphic fabric has been an integral part of many African cultures for over 150 years.
It is the African continent that has given it its light and worldwide renown. Yet today, over 90% of the fabric sold in Africa and around the world is "made in China". This massive and unfair trade in fabrics has been at the root of economic disasters on the continent since the early 2000s.
WaxUp Africa is first and foremost a vision: that of making the most of Africa's abundant wealth. This vision is served by the many emblematic fabrics made in Africa.
Indeed, we are firmly committed to working exclusively with fabrics made in Africa. Our aim is to give strength to the craft industry as well as to the African textile industry and its local economic activity, so that the financial benefits of these fabrics are not usurped by unfair competition and the marketing of Wax, 95% of which is counterfeit.
Our action provides access to authentic, quality fabric, in a spirit of awareness of the Wax phenomenon!
